Thesis (B.S.) -- Cagayan State University, 2022.

Husk production in the Philippines is 14.69 billion nuts per year and farmers use more than 5 billion of them for firewood during copra drying. Despite all the current applications of husk, the estimated husk utilization in the Philippines amounts to 334 tons/day (about 120,000 tons/year) which is a negligible fraction of the total husk production (PCA, 2015). Based on this realization, a proper machinery, like a coconut husk grinder, was developed to address the current issue in coconut waste disposal. The grinding assembly was designed to shred the coconut husk. The blades are made up of flat bars with 2.54 cm width and 0.25 cm thickness. It consists of 42 cutting blades with a dimension of 10.16 cm. Coconut husk is manually fed into the hopper as the blade assembly rotates. The cutting and grinding elements crush and grind the matured coconut husk. The shaft and blades were driven in the desired revolution by the prime mover via a V-belt and pulley system. The engine operated coconut husk grinding machine was evaluated. With the three treatments performed, treatment 2 with the speed setting of 1242.4 rpm has the highest input capacity, grinding efficiency and even the fuel consumption though the fuel consumption in treatment 2 has no significant difference among the three treatments. The overall cost of fabricated coconut husk grinding machine was P24,220.35 and the grinding cost is P17.37/kg. It will reach its payback period after 0.7 year after purchasing the machine. Therefore, the machine is economical.
