Purpose/objectives. Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) is an open-source software that provides a comprehensive solution for managing library operations. This system significantly helps the librarians in carrying out their daily routine in the library efficiently and effectively to their clients. The main purpose of this study was to assess the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and challenges/limitations encountered during the implementation of the Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) at the CNHS-JHS Library.
Design, methodology, approach. The study aimed to assess the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and challenges and limitations of Koha ILS in the CNHS-Junior High Library using the Technology Acceptance Model. Specifically, it answers the following questions: 1) What is the perceived usefulness of the Koha Integrated Library System among students at the CNHS-JHS Library? 2) What is the perceived ease of use of the Koha Integrated Library System among students at the CNHS-JHS Library?
3) What are the challenges and limitations encountered during the implementation of Koha Integrated Library System in the CNHS-JHS Library?
By using the original TAM as theoretical base, two dimensions from the TAM will be selected as variables; Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) together with the challenges and limitations.
Methodology. The study employed a quantitative research design using descriptive method of research. Using descriptive research, this study described the perceptions, challenges, and limitations of using KOHA ILS in the Cagayan National High School - Junior High School Library. The questionnaire was validated by the two expert who have expertise in the field related to the research topic. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. The data collected through the survey was analyzed using statistical tools such as mean and standard deviation. The following items were also considered in the conduct of the study: informed consent, privacy, and confidentiality. The researchers obtained informed consent from the respondents, emphasizing that the data collected will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and it will be used solely for the purpose of this study.
Findings. This study focuses on assessing the perceived usefulness, ease of use, and challenges and limitations of implementing the Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) in the CNHS-JHS Library. Data was collected through questionnaires from 307 respondents and analyzed using SPSS software. The findings indicate that the majority of students strongly agree with the perceived usefulness of the Koha ILS, particularly in terms of locating materials. They also perceive the system as user-friendly and easy to navigate. The challenges and limitations encountered during implementation are rated relatively low, with most students disagreeing with the statements. However, there is variability in responses, suggesting that some individuals may have faced challenges. This study contributes to the existing knowledge on library management systems and provides valuable insights for researchers and practitioners. It emphasizes the importance of understanding the perceived usefulness, ease of use, and challenges associated with such systems in educational institutions, aiding decision-making and effective utilization. Recommendations for future research and practical applications are also provided.
