This study investigates the impact of a bypass road on traffic flow performance along a national highway utilizing Spot Speed Studies and Traffic Flow Count and a simulation model developed in PTV Vissim. Two scenarios were analyzed, the existing highway with the bypass road and the highway operating without it. Key traffic flow parameters, average travel time, average speed, traffic density, volume-to-capacity (v/c) ratio, and Level of Service (LOS), were assessed to determine the bypass road's effectiveness. The study provides an understanding on the impacts of a bypass road by providing empirical data on the traffic flow characteristics of the road network. Results show that the inclusion of the bypass significantly improves overall traffic conditions. The average travel time was reduced from 7.09 to 3.20 seconds, while the average speed increased from 15.3 km/hr to 37.28 km/hr. Traffic density decreased from 251.48 to 90.35 pcu/km, and the v/c ratio dropped from 0.89 to 0.58. Consequently, the LOS improved from category E to category C. These findings highlight the bypass road's role in reducing congestion, enhancing flow efficiency, and improving roadway reliability. The study supports the use of bypass infrastructure as a practical and sustainable solution to mitigating traffic congestion, particularly in areas facing growing vehicular demand due to urban expansion, increased economic activity, or limited roadway capacity.
