Speed bump is well known decades since it was introduced in the world for its purpose to regulate speed of moving vehicles to promote safety. Speed bump is passed by a moving vehicle with a limited speed to avoid abrupt bounce in the vehicle that both occupants and cargo may feel. Energy is wasted during contact of the wheels of a vehicle and the speed bump. With this matter, the energy that is usually wasted can be a medium of power generation with mechanical to electrical conversion. Thus, this research project entitled "Viability Study of Power Generation System on Speed Bump" generates power through the use of speed bumps. The principle of this study is to convert mechanical energy coming from a passing vehicle to electrical energy with the use of electromagnetic system which is a generator. Initially, linear motion is converted into rotary with a crank in a shaft under the bump. Low rpm attain plainly with the 4 inches travel of the bump will be multiplied with the use of gearset. Also, flywheel had been known decades long as alternative battery of a system for it sustains rotational force longer. Produced power by the generator is being store in a 12v lead acid battery. When charged, the battery can be used as a power producer that can be used for various electrical uses. It is then furthermore found that upon increasing load acting on the bump, larger voltage and current is also obtained.
Keywords: speedbump, linear motion, gearset, flywheel, belt and pulley.
