Summary, etc Traffic congestion continues to be pressing issue in Tuguegarao City, particularly along the Carig-Tanza (Rotunda) Highway where tricycles, despite their limited capacity, remain the dominant mode of transport. Recognizing the inefficiency posed by tricycles in a high-volume corridor, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of restricting tricycles to prioritize jeepneys as a public transport mode. The research used a mixed method approach. Quantitative data were gathered through manual traffic volume counts at peak hours and modeled using OpenPaths by Bentley to simulate traffic flow scenarios -with and without tricycles. Qualitative data were collected via purposive sampling of 102 respondents, including commuters, jeepney and tricycle drivers, and private car owners. These responses were analyzed using SPSS Software through Pearson Correlation. Results showed that: tricycles and motorcycles accounted for the highest traffic volume during peak periods, contributing to reduced speeds and higher volume-to-capacity ratios along the study corridor; traffic simulations confirmed that removing tricycles increased average travel speed by 84.63% and reduced vehicle hours travelled by 15.61% along the affected segment, indicating substantial traffic flow improvement; and jeepneys, due to higher passenger capacity and route coverage, were evaluated to be a more efficient alternative in terms of commuter satisfaction and reducing congestion. These findings support policy interventions promoting the prioritization of higher-capacity vehicles like jeepneys while mitigating adverse effects through complementary transport planning for displaced tricycle routes.
