Summary, etc This study investigates the development and implementation of an automated irrigation lateral canal gate system utilizing motorized mechanism to improve irrigation efficiency in the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) of Cagayan, Philippines. The primary objectives were to determine the appropriate size and type of motor, select a gearing system, assess the energy requirements of the motor, and fabricate and test the gate system. In addressing these objectives, the research involved designing a control system for gate operation based on sensor feedback, ensuring optimal water flow regulation. The gate structure, powered by an electric linear actuator, was designed for durability and efficient performance. The study found that integrating automated gates into the irrigation system significantly enhances water distribution efficiency, reduces manual labor, and promotes sustainable agricultural practices. The results demonstrated that the automated gate system could maintain precise control over water levels, leading to improved irrigation scheduling and better water resource management. The energy requirements for the motor were within acceptable limits, ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability. Testing of the fabricated gate system confirmed its effectiveness in real-world conditions, showcasing its potential for broader application in similar irrigation projects. This study provides valuable insights for engineers, farmers, and policymakers, highlighting the benefits of automation in irrigation systems. It offers practical recommendations for implementing automated gate systems and suggests areas for future research to further optimize irrigation efficiency and sustainability.
