This study assessed the suitability of potential locations for a shared parking facility within the Regional Government Center (RGC) in Carig, Tuguegarao City, in response to increasing parking demand and recurring issues related to congestion and user dissatisfaction. Existing parking areas are limited, unevenly distributed, and unable to accommodate daily vehicle needs, highlighting the urgency for a more organized system.
A survey of 145 respondents from various government offices was conducted to assess parking demand, user satisfaction, and common parking concerns. Spatial data including land use, slope, road networks, and satellite imagery were analyzed in QGIS using a GIS–Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (GIS-MCDA) approach. Four criteria guided the suitability assessment: land availability, accessibility, land-use compatibility, and slope. Findings revealed a high level of parking demand and generally low satisfaction among users, particularly in terms of accessibility, safety, and the adequacy of parking spaces for shared parking development based on their consistently high performance across all criteria.
In conclusion, the results emphasize the need to establish a centralized shared parking facility to alleviate congestion and enhance mobility within the RGC. The integration of survey results and GIS-based spatial analysis offers a strong foundation for informed decision-making and the development of a more sustainable and efficient parking system.
