This research gives an extensive structural analysis and design with regards to the proposed vertical expansion of the CTEd building in Cagayan State University Lasam Campus. The building was constructed in 1996, and the existing building was assessed in its present condition and its capacity to bear additional loads under the revised criteria under the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP). Non-destructive testing (Rebound Hammer Test and FEMA P- 154) was used to determine the state of the building's health and identify any defect or inadequacy. Analysis results drawn from STAAD.Pro and other structural software tools show that the current building needs to be retrofitted to be able to support the vertical addition. The proposed expansion includes classrooms, offices, and laboratories to accommodate the growing number of students. The cost comparison determined vertical expansion to be less expensive compared to the construction of a new building, with a saving of more than Php 900,000. This research contributes to campus infrastructure offering a sustainable, financially sound, and safe engineering solution, which can further serve as a model for future retrofitting and vertical extension works in similar institutional settings.
